The crop changeover is a good time to clean the water system. However, the water system as a whole becomes dirty again year after year, and with it come contamination risks for the crop. Biofilm and algae are often a source of irritation, while fungi, bacteria, and viruses pose a risk to a good harvest. These are all things that can and must change in this day and age, according to Robert de Hoo, owner of Ultramins. The company is the exclusive distributor of USAF Ultrasonic transmitters.

A lot happens during the crop change, often in the water system of the greenhouses. Pipes are filled with an agent (for example hydrogen peroxide) to kill and remove the biofilm, bacteria, and fungi present in the pipes. In addition, basins and silos are cleaned, the algae and biofilm are removed, and the sludge is extracted from the bottom. Often, a new year starts in the same way as the last one, Robert knows, with the build-up of biofilm, algae, and other micro-organisms starting again from scratch. The following year, the same labor-intensive cleaning process begins again.

"This could all be done much easier, with less work, fewer chemicals, and better quality crop water for the entire year," says Robert, "by installing USAF ultrasonic transmitters. These are guaranteed to keep basins and silos clean and ensure better results. In addition, the transmitters are energy efficient and require no maintenance. Currently, a lot of attention is paid to company hygiene, but often not enough is paid to the quality of the cultivation water, even though water is probably the biggest source of contamination.

"The ultrasonic transmitters are a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and very effective way to get good quality cultivation water. The ultrasonic transmitters work in basins, silos, and wells and ensure that the water is very clean. When this water goes through an existing UV or other disinfection installation, they will also do their work much more effectively."

Kees Luykx, producer of the USAF ultrasonic transmitters, explains: "When our ultrasonic transmitters are combined in the right way, with, for example, hydrogen peroxide, a substance many gardeners use daily, we kill >99% of the bacteria, fungi, and even viruses present - we still have to prove the latter, but that won't take too long!"
